A group of 18-year-old college students created an AI 3D drawing tool in 36 hours

Today I saw a project on X:Vibe DrawVibe Draw UI

It allows you todraw a quick sketch and generate a 3D worldfrom it. It can even directly export glTF files for commercial use.

The developer is actually ——an 18-year-old student, studying Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. A group of his friends created this tool in a 36-hour AI Hackathon.

As soon as the project was launched, it quickly gained popularity,winning the championship at Canada's largest AI hackathon, GenAI Genesis.

What exactly can it do?

"We built Cursor for 3D modeling."

In one sentence: Vibe Draw = Cursor for 3D modeling.

Specific features include:

  • Sketch-to-3D model conversion: You just need to draw freely on an infinite 2D canvas, and the AI will recognize your "scribbles" and automatically generatea colored, draggable 3D model.
  • Model-to-3D scene conversion: Drag the generated 3D models into a 3D space and arrange them freely,quickly building a complete scene.
  • One-click export: Supports exporting in glTF format, which can be directly used in games or digital content;
  • AI sketch optimization: If your drawing is too ugly, click once, and it will use AI to automatically refine it while preserving your spatial composition;
  • Text-to-3D model generation: Directly inputting text prompts can also generate models;
  • Editable models: After generation, you can still edit it through "re-drawing" or new text prompts;
  • High interactivity: In a generated forest,you can open each tree for editing.
  • Supports iPad + Apple Pencil: Seamless creation on mobile devices.

Team members

Vibe Draw was completed by a team of four people in 36 hours:

  • @_martinsit
  • Osher Ahn-Clifford
  • @_williamzeng
  • @__faastcall

There's a little Easter egg: their "social engineering skills" aren't bad either,and they casually found out that Martin's girlfriend is named Rachel 🫣
